1. 2006 Awards & 2007 Applications
• 220 eligible applicants were selected to receive FY 2006 Nursing Scholarship Program funding.
• New applications will not be accepted until Spring 2007. The applications is submitted on-line and will be linked from this Web page as soon as it is available.

2. About the Nursing Scholarship Program
In exchange for at least two years service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses, the Nursing Scholarship Program pays
• tuition
• required fees
• other reasonable costs, including required books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses, etc.
• monthly stipend ($1,182 for the 2006-2007 academic year)
3. Eligible Applicants
• U.S. citizens or nationals (permanent residents are not eligible)
• enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited school of nursing in a professional registered nurse program (baccalaureate, graduate, associate degree, or diploma)
• free from any Federal judgment liens
• free from existing service commitments
• not in default of any Federal debt
4. Selection Criteria

Preference is given to qualified applicants with the greatest financial need who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate nursing program.
5. We estimate that 220 new qualified applicants will be selected to receive the scholarship in FY 2006 and that all will be from the first funding preference group:
• who have a zero Expected Family Contribution (EFC) on the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA),
• have agreed to complete their nursing programs as full-time students beginning in the Fall 2006 semester, and are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an undergraduate nursing program.
6. Last Year (Academic Year 2005-2006)
• Nearly 3,500 applications were received.
• 210 scholarships were awarded (total $9.8 million).
• More than 500 qualified applicants received first funding preference (zero EFC and enrolled full time in an undergraduate nursing program)
